Fracture

My Daughter Fell Through the Attic Floor

When my daughter was five, she had an accident while playing hide and seek in a friend’s attic. She unexpectedly fell through the attic floor beams from the ceiling, landing in front of me in the room below. As she descended at an angle, she tried to break her fall with her right hand, resulting in a fracture to her arm. I gave her the homeopathic remedies Aconite 30c and Gelsemium 200c, along with Arnica Montana 1m and Bryonia Alba 1m, The Aconite, and Gelsemium for the fear and anxiety of what had just happened. Arnica was for the trauma and inflammation, and Bryonia was for the pain that is worse from movement. I continued giving her Arnica 1m and Bryonia 1m in a Homeopathic Remedy Solution Bottle with 10 succussions (taps) periodically when the pain increased until we went to the doctor’s office.

The doctor confirmed she had indeed fractured her arm. The doctor was amazed at how my daughter didn’t cry when he placed the cast on her forearm. The next day, I continued administering Arnica and Bryonia throughout the day for the pain. But I saw the pain number overall wasn’t decreasing. The pain number would come down from an eight to a seven after each dose of Arnica and Bryonia; however, the pain number wasn’t decreasing below seven. That is when I asked my daughter how she was feeling. She burst into tears, saying, “I can’t believe I fell through the floor and landed on my hand.” At that moment, I understood she struggled to accept that this could happen to her. After administering a dose of the homeopathic remedy Ignatia Amara 30c, her pain level decreased to 5.5. It became clear that her emotional shock was inhibiting the effectiveness of Arnica and Bryonia in further alleviating her pain.

When Do You Start Symphytum?

After a few days of taking Arnica and Bryonia, my daughter’s pain was completely gone, along with the swelling in her forearm. Now it’s time to stop Arnica and Bryonia and start the homeopathic remedy Symphytum 30c to be taken in a Homeopathic Remedy Solution Bottle with 10 succussions daily at bedtime. Some homeopaths start Symphytum as soon as someone has fractured a bone. However, I have found you want to start Symphytum when there is no pain and swelling. When the Symphytum is started, as soon as there’s a fracture, the fracture pain ramps up and continues longer than what is really needed.

What Does it Mean When the Fracture Pain Is Not Gone a Week Later?

The fracture pain should be gone within five to seven days after the cast has been put on. I always tell my clients, if the pain has not decreased, to go back to the doctor who put the cast on or get a second opinion. Because when you take the Arnica and Bryonia according to when the pain becomes worse, the pain will be down to a one to two pain level (very slight pain or not at all) by the seventh day if not completely gone. If not, you want to have the fracture area reexamined. It usually means something is not right. For example, if the fracture is misaligned, it needs to be corrected. Once the pain is gone, you will start Symphytum 30c to be taken daily at bedtime for the duration of the time the doctor expects the cast to be on; in most cases, six to eight weeks.

Why Do I Need Calcarea Phosphorica for My Fracture?

Bones are made up of protein, collagen, and minerals, especially calcium and phosphate. I find that giving the homeopathic remedy Calcarea Phosphorica 200c fortifies the calcium in the bone, making the fractured bone strong and least likely to break in that area. I also find that by taking Calcarea Phosphorica, the bones heal properly and prevent the fractured area from becoming painful in the later years. How many times have you heard someone say, “A storm is coming in; I can feel it in my bones or the fracture area?” That is because the fracture did not completely heal properly, and when there is a change in the weather (i.e., rain or snow), that area becomes painful. Taking Calcarea Phosphorica heals the fracture, so changes in the weather do not affect that area.

How to Administer Calcarea Phosphorica

You will take 1 dose of Calcarea Phosphorica 200c halfway through the duration of having the cast, splint, sling, or brace on. For example, my daughter’s doctor said she would be in the cast for six to eight weeks. My daughter took Symphytum 30c daily at bedtime to continue the healing of the fracture. On day 28 (halfway through the eight weeks), my daughter did not take Symphytum; she took one dose of Calcarea Phosphorica 200c that night, and on day 29, she went back on Symphytum until the cast came off. The doctor was amazed at how well my daughter’s forearm healed when the cast came off.

What is a Fracture (Broken bone)?

A fracture is a partial or complete break in the bone when force is placed on the bones more than the bones can endure. A fracture can occur from a fall, injury, or a direct hit or kick to the body, such as a punch. A fracture can occur from overuse, or repetitive movements can cause a stress fracture, commonly seen in athletes. Fractures can occur from health conditions that can weaken a bone, such as osteoporosis or bone cancer.

Symptoms of Fracture:

  • Pain, especially worse when moving the fractured area
  • Swelling
  • Tenderness
  • Inability to move the fractured part of your body (i.e., arm, finger, foot) like you usually can
  • Bruising or discoloration at the fractured area
  • A deformity or bump at the injured area you don’t usually have on your body

Eleven Types of Fractures:

  1. Open (Compound) Fracture – Is when a fracture or fragments of a bone protrude through skin
  2. Closed (Simple) Fracture – When a bone is fractured at the site, but the bone does not break through the skin
  3. Greenstick Fracture – The bone bends and partially breaks as a greenstick would break
  4. Transverse Fracture – The bone breaks in a straight line across the bone
  5. Spiral Fracture – The break occurs when a bone is twisted or rotated forcefully
  6. Oblique Fracture – The break goes diagonally across the bone
  7. Compression Fracture – Occurs when the bone is crushed, causing the broken bone to be wider or look flatter
  8. Comminuted Fracture – The bone breaks into three or more pieces (multiple small fragments)
  9. Segmental Fracture – The bone broken in two or more places creates a separate section of bone between the fractures (floating piece)
  10. Avulsion Fracture – This occurs when a tendon or ligament pulls away a small piece of bone from the main bone structure
  11. Hairline Fracture – A minor fracture in the bone occurs when the bone is in perfect alignment, and the x-ray shows a thin line between two segments, but not through the bone. Also called a stress fracture

Daughter’s Stress Fractures from Dancing

My client consulted with me about her 22-year-old daughter having recurring stress fractures from competing in dance competitions over the last eight months, doing at least two competitions a month. She explained a couple of months ago, her daughter developed a stress fracture in her right foot from always landing on the foot in leaps and other dance moves. My client said the homeopathic remedies Arnica Montana 1m and Bryonia Alba 1m in a Homeopathic Remedy Solution Bottle help her daughter with pain worse from walking (worse with movement). She also gave her daughter the homeopathic remedy Symphytum 30c, which healed the stress fracture initially. However, when she resumes her dance routine, in a short time span, the stress fracture reoccurs.

For the pain my client’s daughter experiences while walking, I recommended she continues to administer Arnica 1m and Bryonia 1m to her daughter. Additionally, I also asked my client to give her daughter the homeopathic remedy Strontium Carbonicum 30s daily at bedtime in a Homeopathic Remedy Solution Bottle with 10 succussions for the reoccurring stress fractures. I explained to my client that to completely heal the stress fractures, her daughter needs to take a break from dancing for a few months until her foot has completely healed. When the foot has completely healed, her daughter will need to go back to dancing slowly; over time, she will be able to compete again in dance competitions periodically.

What is a Stress Fracture?

A stress fracture (hairline fracture) is a small crack in one of your bones. Stress fractures occur from overuse injuries from repetitive physical activity, starting as a bruised bone that eventually develops into a small crack on the bone’s surface. Stress fractures commonly occur from playing a sport (i.e., running, basketball, tennis, gymnastics, dance, etc.) and a repetitive motion you engage in on the job.

Where do Stress Fractures Commonly Occur?

  • In your lower leg (the two long bones – tibia and fibula)
  • In your foot (metatarsals, five long bones found in each foot)
  • Your heel

Stress Fracture Symptoms

  • The pain starts and becomes worse during physical activity
  • The pain doesn’t feel better after stopping activity (resting)
  • You have tenderness to a light touch on or near your affected bone
  • Swelling

What Can Cause a Stress Fracture?

  • Practicing or training too often without resting enough
  • Quickly increasing your activity level (i.e., increasing workouts, training, or other physical activity)
  • Change the surface you train or work on (switching from running on a grass path to running on the road or starting a job that requires you to stand on concrete)

In conclusion, the use of homeopathy in treating fractures and broken bones offers a holistic approach that emphasizes natural healing and individualized care. Homeopathy can complement traditional medical treatments and potentially enhance recovery outcomes by prioritizing remedies that address physical symptoms and emotional well-being. Embracing this alternative practice fosters a deeper understanding of one’s body and encourages a proactive stance toward health. Ultimately, exploring homeopathy presents an opportunity for those recovering from fractures and broken bones to experience a gentler, more nurturing path toward healing.
