Cavities and Homeopathy

Let’s talk about something that probably keeps a lot of parents up at night – tooth cavities. We’ve all been told that once you get a cavity, it’s game over until you see the dentist for a filling, right? But what if there were other options? What if you could actually help your teeth heal naturally? I’m going to share a real case from my practice that might surprise you, and then we’ll dive into what you need to know about tooth decay and how homeopathy might help.

What’s Really Happening When You Get Cavities?

First, let’s break down what cavities (or dental caries, if you want the fancy term) actually are. Basically, acids in your mouth are eating away at your tooth enamel – that hard, protective outer layer of your teeth. This creates holes, which we call tooth decay. Here’s how it happens: When you eat carbs, especially sugary or starchy stuff (think fruit, candy, bread, cereal, sodas, juice, even milk), bacteria in your mouth throw a little party and convert those carbs into acids. If those foods hang around on your teeth, you get plaque – that sticky, gross coating made of bacteria, acid, food particles, and saliva. Dry mouth and not brushing properly? Yeah, those don’t help either.

A Real Case: When a Three-Year-Old’s Teeth Turned Black

A client reached out to me, really concerned about her three-year-old son. She’d noticed over the past week that his four upper front teeth had turned a dark gray, almost black color. To make matters worse, they looked chipped or cracked, and he’d started grinding his teeth at night. After asking her some questions, I selected the homeopathic remedy Kreosotum 30c. Why Kreosotum? Because it’s specifically for rapid tooth decay when teeth turn dark or black. It’s also great for crumbly teeth or teeth with black spots.

I had my client prepare it in a Homeopathic Remedy Solution Bottle and told her to give it to him every night at bedtime with 10 succussions (a specific way of tapping the bottle to activate the homeopathic remedy). Now, here’s the important part I explained to her: healing teeth takes time. We needed to give it 3-4 weeks to see if the discoloration would start reversing. If nothing changed, we’d try a different homeopathic remedy.

The Results Started Coming In

Three weeks later, she called back with exciting news. Within just two days of starting Kreosotum, she saw improvement! The teeth were lightening from black to a lighter gray. But after two weeks, the progress had stalled. This told me the remedy wasn’t strong enough anymore. So, I had her increase from 10 to 12 succussions to make it more potent. A month and a half later, she casually mentioned during another call that the Kreosotum was working amazingly well. The grayish-black color was now white and moving up the teeth toward the gumline! Six months in, the discoloration was more than halfway gone, replaced by healthy white enamel. There was one stubborn brown spot, so we increased to 14 succussions.

Even the Dentist Was Impressed

Here’s my favorite part: A month later, her son had his regular six-month dental cleaning, and the dentist was really pleased with the progress. The discoloration was almost completely gone, nearly reaching the gumline. I told her to keep going with the Kreosotum until every bit of discoloration disappeared.

The Big Lesson: Patience Is Everything

When you’re using homeopathy for teeth, you need to understand – it’s a process, not a quick fix. As long as you’re seeing improvement, keep going. If progress stalls for 2-3 weeks, that’s your signal to make the homeopathic remedy stronger by increasing the succussions by two increments.

Pro tip: Take weekly photos at roughly the same time of day. They’ll help you track progress that might be too gradual to notice day-to-day.

How Do You Know If You’re Getting Cavities?

Watch for these warning signs:

  • Tooth pain (though sometimes you won’t have symptoms early on)
  • Bad breath or a bad taste in your mouth
  • White spots on your teeth
  • Sensitivity to hot or cold foods and drinks
  • Toothache or general mouth pain
  • Facial swelling (in advanced stages)

The Five Stages of Tooth Decay

  1. Early Stage – Small white chalky spots appear. Your tooth enamel is losing minerals. Good news? This stage can sometimes be reversed with good oral hygiene, remineralization, and the right homeopathic remedy.
  2. Enamel Decay – The decay breaks down your enamel, creating actual holes (cavities). Those white spots may turn light brown.
  3. Dentin Decay – Now it’s reached the layer beneath your enamel. Cavities progress faster here because dentin is softer. Your teeth might feel sensitive, and spots turn darker brown.
  4. Pulp Damage – The cavity has reached the innermost layer of your tooth. You might have pain, redness, and swelling around the tooth. Spots turn dark brown or black.
  5. Abscessed Tooth – The infection has formed a pocket of pus at your tooth root. Pain can radiate into your jaw or face. At this point, you’ll need different homeopathic remedies to address the abscess.

Can Homeopathy Really Help Cavities?

Here’s my honest take: I’ve successfully helped children with blackened teeth using homeopathic remedies, and I’ve seen real results (like the case I just shared). Could a homeopathic remedy address a cavity depending on what stage it’s in? I think so, especially in the earlier stages. But would I rely only on homeopathy to completely fix a cavity? Probably not. I’d use a multi-pronged approach.

Other Natural Ways to Support Tooth Healing

You can help repair tooth enamel using minerals. I recommend Hyland’s Cell Salts – either #1 Calc Fluor 6x or #2 Calc Phos 6x. And of course, you still need proper brushing, flossing, regular dental cleanings, and a healthy diet low in sugar and processed foods.

Something Fascinating: Colostrum for Cavities

I’ve seen some incredible pictures of people using Colostrum to actually fill in cavities. If you’re not familiar, Colostrum is the pre-milk fluid a mother produces right after giving birth – it’s a mammal’s first food. One method is to pack the cavity at night with Colostrum powder. From the photos I’ve seen, the cavity fills in over time. Bovine (cow) colostrum is the most compatible with human bodies. I’ve seen great results with Anovite Colostrum6 specifically. I’d use this along with taking Calc Fluor 6x and/or Calc Phos 6x.

The Bottom Line

Can homeopathy help with tooth decay and cavities? Based on my 40+ years of experience, absolutely – especially in earlier stages and for certain types of tooth problems. But it requires patience, the right remedy selection, and proper adjustments along the way. That said, every person and every tooth situation is unique. If you’re dealing with tooth decay or discoloration, I’d recommend consulting with an experienced homeopath who can guide you through the process and select the right homeopathic remedies for your specific situation. Dental health doesn’t have to be all drills and fillings. Sometimes, a gentler, more natural approach can lead you to a truly healthy, holistic smile.
