How Homeopathy Helped a Recurring Case
About four years ago, my client called me concerned that she might have an early stage stye on her left upper eyelid, which turned out to be a chalazion. Over the past 18 months, she has experienced recurring episodes every six to eight months. I asked her where on the eyelid the lump appeared, and she replied that it was on the lid above the lashes. I said, “are you sure you have a stye in your eye and not a chalazion?” I explained that styes usually occur in the margins of the eyelid between the eyelashes or underneath the eyelid. While a stye can sometimes appear a little bit higher up on the lid but I suspected what you have is a chalazion, which occurs on the eyelid itself above the lashes. My client reported tenderness when she touches the lump on her eyelid. I selected the homeopathic remedy Silica 30c to be taken in a Homeopathic Remedy Solution Bottle twice a day with 10 succussions (taps). I told her Silica fits her eye symptoms whether she has a stye or a chalazion. I stated Silica was selected, because it’s also one of the homeopathic remedies for reoccurring chalazion and stye. My client decided to go have a doctor look at the eye and he confirmed that she has a chalazion, not a stye on her eyelid.
My client reported back to me a couple of days after taking the Silica twice a day, the chalazion was less tender and the lump on her eyelid is becoming smaller. I told my client to continue taking the Silica twice a day and if the eye symptoms are not continuing to improve over the next three days to increase the Silica to 12 succussions and continue with it twice a day.
My client called me back a week later stating that increasing the succussions to 12 has greatly improved the chalazion and she no longer has it. I told my client to stop taking the Silica and if the symptoms start to return, go back on it twice a day.
My client called me a year later telling me the chalazion appeared again for the second time in about a year and Silica is not addressing it like it had in the past. She said I even went up to 14 succussions and the eruption on the eyelid has not changed in any way. I had my client switch to the homeopathic remedy Staphysagria 30c with 10 succussions once daily at bedtime.
My client informed me two weeks later that her issue had completely cleared up with Staphysagria.
A year later, I reconnected with my client, who reported not experiencing a chalazion for over a year. This was excellent news, as we had previously struggled with a recurring pattern of chalazions emerging every six to eight months, or even twice a year. Now the client had gone an entire year without any such occurrences, a significant improvement that indicated we had effectively broken the cycle.
What is Chalazion?
A small cyst or lump that occurs in your eyelid from inflammation or blockage of the meibomian gland, also known as meibomian cyst. These tiny meibomian glands help keep your eyes lubricated. When one of these glands becomes clogged, the trapped oil can form a lump, which over time, can harden, creating what is known as a chalazion – a slow, gradual lump that has some discomfort as it enlarges and can interfere with your vision or cause cosmetic concerns. Similar to a stye, but does not occur from an infection, like a stye does.
Chalazion Symptoms
- A small, firm lump on the upper or lower eyelid
- Mild tenderness or swelling in the beginning
- Blurred vision can occur when the chalazion grows large and pressed on the eyeball
- Redness or warmth in the affected area can sometime occur
What Can Cause a Chalazion?
- Infrequent cleaning of the eyelid area can lead to oil build-up
- Skin conditions such as rosacea or seborrheic dermatitis can cause a chalazion
- Chronic Blepharitis – reoccurring inflammation of the eyelid margin can cause the gland to block
- Hormonal fluctuations can sometimes affect the meibomian gland
- Frequent rubbing of eyes can irritate the eyelid and lead to blockages
Homeopathic Remedies for Chalazion
There are several homeopathic remedies for chalazion. You will select a 30c homeopathic remedy according to the chalazion symptoms you have, along with what makes your eye condition feel better or worse. Such as, does your eye feel better or worse with a warm or cool compress on it, or with touch? Is your chalazion reoccurring?
What is the Difference Between Chalazion and Blepharitis?
Blepharitis and chalazion both occur on your eyelids. Blepharitis is a chronic inflammation of the eyelids that occurs on the eyelid margin. A chalazion occurs as a lump in the eyelid itself. Incorporating Homeopathy into your treatment plan for a chalazion can offer a gentle and holistic approach to healing, emphasizing the importance of individualized care and natural remedies. Ultimately, exploring these options with guidance from a professional Homeopath can lead to effective relief and improved eye health.
