Does this Case Scenario Sound Like Your Eye Floaters?
A 55-year-old client contacted me about the eye floaters bothering her in both eyes for the last year and a half. Her doctor told her these spots are just a regular sign of getting older. He suggested she get routine eye checks to watch them closely. That way, they can spot any bigger problems early, such as a tear in the retina or a detached retina.
I explained to my client that floaters can be addressed with a homeopathic remedy depending upon how long she has had the condition, and if the floaters are from a more serious eye condition such as a retinal detachment or retinal tear. When a homeopathic remedy is needed for a health condition such as detached retina or retinal tear that is causing the floater, it is selected according to the health condition symptoms she is experiencing, in order to address the serious health condition and the floaters.
My client stated that her floaters are black spots that seem to float around in both eyes especially when she is in the dark. Or strangely she said, she’s more apt to see floaters after eating. After asking my client a few more questions I selected the homeopathic remedy Phosphorus 30c to be taken in a Homeopathic Remedy Solution Bottle once a day with no succussions (taps). I explained to my client that most floaters are seen in the light especially when looking at a computer screen, however, since her floaters are seen in the dark that is one reason why I selected Phosphorus for her floaters.
My client reported back to me a week later saying that she still has the floaters, however she doesn’t notice them as often after eating. I had my client continue taking the Phosphorus with no succussions daily at bedtime and to report back to me every two to three weeks.
As my client reported every couple of weeks, I would adjust the Phosphorus dosage going from no succussions to two succussions, when she stated the floaters were occurring more often. As my client continued taking the Phosphorus over time her floaters slowly diminished.
What Are Eye Floaters?
Eye floaters, also called Myodesopsias are tiny spots, specks, flecks and “cobwebs” that drift aimlessly around in field of vision. While annoying, ordinary eye floaters and spots are very common and usually aren’t cause for alarm. Usually between the ages of 50 and 70 years old, in some cases earlier, the vitreous fluid (a clear, gel-like substance that fills the center of your eyeball) begins to dissolve and liquefy creating a watery center inside your eyeball. Some undissolved gel particles occasionally break loose within the inner back portion of the eye and will float around in the more liquid center of the vitreous, hence called floaters. As floaters move, they pass in front of your macula (the center of the retina), you will see various sizes and shapes such as dark shadows or spots, squiggly lines, spiderlike shapes, and threadlike strands. You are most likely to see floaters when you’re looking at a clear sky, a blank piece of paper, a white wall or a white computer screen. You might also notice flashes of light at the same time however, this can be a more serious eye problem (i.e., retinal tears and retinal detachment), and you will need to see your doctor.
Floaters can occur in one eye at a time or in both of your eyes, however, usually not in both eyes at the same time. The vitreous may shrink in one eye a little faster than in your other. Within a few weeks of developing floaters, your brain will learn what a floater looks like, and it will ignore it even further. Having floaters doesn’t mean your eyes aren’t healthy.
Health Conditions That Can Have Floaters:
- You have blood in your eye, which is often linked to diabetes-related retinopathy
- Having inflammation in your eye, such as uveitis (inflammation of the middle layer of your eyeball called the uvea)
- Tumors in the brain or eye
Stress Can Cause Floaters Too
My 35-year-old client called me about the floaters she has been having for the last eight months. She told me that she started a new job a year ago that requires her to be at the computer for several hours a day. She said her eyes felt tired by the end of the day from looking at her monitor all day long. I asked her if her eyes felt sore at the end of the day checking in to see if she needs the homeopathic remedy Ruta Graveolens for her floaters. My client stated her eyes just feel tired by the end of the day and her mind also becomes fatigued from doing the computer work, even though she does take breaks throughout the day. She said her brain feels all scrambled up and is having a hard time focusing on what she is reading or talking about. She also explained that she loves the fact that she is able to work from home, even though the job can be very stressful. She went on to say that she has a team of 10 under her and a couple of them are doing their job poorly. They are not reading the notes that she sends to the team, and they are just responding back via email asking the same questions that my client has already explained in the team email in great detail on how to do the task they’re asking about. She said “so I know they are not reading my emails.” My client informed me that the team’s failure to complete their tasks is stressing her out. She’s forced to compensate for what isn’t getting done, and her boss holds her accountable for the project’s completion. She also mentioned that over the past month she’s been feeling mentally and physically exhausted—burnout is starting to set in. I explained to my client that she needs the homeopathic remedy Kali Phosphoricum 30c.
My client called back a week later expressing that she hasn’t noticed any improvement with the floaters, but she is starting to sleep better and feels slightly better mentally. I told my client to continue taking the Kali Phosphoricum 30c in a Homeopathic Remedy Solution Bottle with no succussions for another 10 to 14 days and report back to me on how she is feeling.
My client called back two weeks later saying that her energy is much better and she was feeling less stressed out from her job. She went on to say that the floaters only seem to appear on days when she is not able to take computer breaks or when she works longer hours at the computer. I advised my client to continue taking Kali Phosphoricum daily until her floaters are gone. I also had my client take Hyland’s Cell Salt (Tissue Salt) #9 (Nat Mur 6x) tablets to help with dry eyes, especially from looking at electronic screens and for being prone to dryness of the body.
Can Homeopathic Remedies Help You Manage Eye Floaters?
According to the medical world, there is no treatment for floaters other than observing the floater. There are several homeopathic remedies for floaters that can be taken in a 30c potency daily. The homeopathic remedy is selected according to the symptoms you are experiencing with the floaters. I also suggest you do the following to have healthy eyes as you go through the aging process:
- Reduce your screen time and take regular eye breaks
- Keep yourself hydrated and well-nourished with a clean diet with no or very little processed foods
- Find ways that work for you to manage stress and anxiety
- Get regular eye check-ups, especially if floaters increase suddenly
In short, if floaters impact your quality of life, discussing homeopathic options with a trusted Homeopath can help determine whether this pathway fits your needs and safety profile. Remember to approach treatment choices with open dialogue, informed questions, and a clear understanding of potential benefits and limitations. Your eye health is worth thoughtful, collaborative consideration.
