Decreased Eye Pressure Using the Homeopathic Remedy Jaborandi

A client calls saying she just had her routine eye exam and the doctor said that her eye pressure is still elevated. The pressure in her right eye is 17 mm Hg and left eye is 18 mm Hg. She stated she has been on eye drops since last year that were supposed to lower her eye pressure. My client said that her eye doctor wants her to have eye injections since the eye drops are not helping. She said that last year the eye doctor had initially wanted her to do eye injections, but since she did not want to, the doctor agreed to first try eye drops to lower her eye pressure. My client said that her eye pressure started at 20 mm Hg in her right eye and 21 mm Hg in her left eye.

I asked my client if the doctor had specified what is causing her eye pressure issue. She stated that she does not have any symptoms of Glaucoma, however she has too much fluid in the eye and that is causing her to have increased eye pressure. I selected the Homeopathic Remedy Jaborandi 30c, to be taken with 10 succussions in a Remedy Solution Bottle (RSB) once a day at bedtime to help decrease the eye pressure. To help address the excess fluid in the eye, I selected the Homeopathic Remedy Apis Melifica 200c, to also be taken at bedtime in an Remedy Solution Bottle with 10 succussions.

I explained to my client that most likely her eye pressure increased from the stress that has been going on in her life, since she had stated that she didn’t have any eye or head injuries. She told me that she has been under a lot of stress in the last 2-3 years, between having problems at work with her boss and her parents’ health (taking them to doctor appointments). Recently, she said she has been thinking about whether or not she should retire, since work is not improving in any way. If she retires , she and her husband can scale down to a smaller house which will be easier for them to take care of.  She also stated that she had a lot of loose ends between her parents’ health and upkeep of the house that she attends to daily.

My client also shared with me that she was recently diagnosed as being a borderline diabetic. She said the doctor wants her to take medication, but she does not want to, since her A1C is borderline. She said she has been eating a lot more treats with all the frustration she feels with work, especially salty foods (chips, salted caramel treats). She also stated that she does keep thinking about what she should do with work, retiring, and her parents. She is trying to find the perfect solution to her life issues. I selected the Homeopathic Remedy Natrum Muriaticum 6c, in a Remedy Solution Bottle with 10 succussions, to be taken at bedtime to help her with the frustration, dwelling, and trying to make the perfect decision for her life. I explained to her that I would be expecting to see results with the Natrum Muriaticum within a week’s time (i.e., less dwelling and frustration, better energy). We will not know how the eye pressure is until her next eye appointment (every 4 months), since we don’t physically see any symptoms with her eyes.

My client reported back a week later, stating she is sleeping better, with less chatter in her head at night trying to analyze what she should do with her life. She also stated that she is starting to feel a little less frustrated at work with some of the silly things her boss does. I told her to continue taking Natrum Muriaticum daily, with 10 succussions. Two weeks later, she called to say she is starting to become more frustrated with her boss and having problems falling asleep with chatter (analyzing) again. I had her increase the succussions of her Natrum Muriaticum 6c from 10 to 12 at bedtime. I told her she should be noticing the frustration will decrease again and she should be able to fall asleep without the chatter keeping her up at night.

Managing the Selected Homeopathic Remedies for the Increased Eye Pressure

Four months later, the doctor said her eye pressure in her right eye is still at 17 mm Hg, her left eye pressure decreased from 18 mm Hg to 17 mm Hg. There was no real change with the eye fluid. I told my client that we will continue with the Jaborandi 30c with 10 succussions, Apis 200c with 10 succussions, and Natrum Muriaticum 6c, which is now at 14 succussions at bedtime. I told her the fact that her left eye pressure has decreased 1 point is enough of a change to say the Homeopathic Remedies are working.

My client had another 4-month eye checkup, and the eye doctor was pleased with the results. Now, both of her eyes are down to 16 mm Hg eye pressure, and the fluid in the eyes improved, too. I asked how she was feeling emotionally these last few weeks, and my client stated that she is feeling much better overall with her energy, and a lot less frustrated with work. She has been talking with her husband about what her retirement will look like. Her husband is semi-retired, and works from their home when he does work. She said the main stressors I have now, are my parents’ health and juggling their doctor appointments, which can be overwhelming sometimes.

I told my client that since she is doing well overall to continue taking the Jaborandi 30c with 10 succussions, Apis 200c with 10 succussions, and Natrum Muriaticum 6c with 14 succussions at bedtime. I also told her when she is feeling overwhelmed, whether it be from juggling her parents’ health concerns or anything else that is going on in her life, take 1 dose dry (1-3 pellets) of the Homeopathic Remedy Calcarea Carbonica 30c.

My client called back 4 months later after her eye doctor appointment, stating the eye pressure in her right eye had stayed at 16 mm Hg, however, her left eye pressure had increased to 17 mm Hg. She also said her left eye has a little more fluid in it. My client also told me how well the Calcarea Carbonica 30c helps her when she is overwhelmed. She has been needing to take the Calcarea Carbonica 1 or 2 times a week. Since the eye pressure in her left eye increased to 17 mm Hg, I had her increase the succussions on the Jaborandi 30c to 12. I also had her increase the succussions of the Apis 200c to 12, because she has a little more fluid in the left eye. She will continue taking the Natrum Muriaticum 6c with 14 succussions at bedtime, and the Calcarea Carbonica 30c when she is feeling more overwhelmed.

Four more months later, my client called to tell me her eye pressure is now at 14 mm Hg in the right eye and 15 mmHg in her left eye. The doctor said there is no fluid in the eye. She also told me her father’s health has not been too good, and she needs to use the Calcarea Carbonica 30c several times a week now. I had my client continue with Jaborandi 30c with 12 succussions, since the eye pressure improved, along with continuing to take the Apis 200c with 12 succussions. I have found that when Apis is stopped too soon, the fluid returns in the eye. So, we will continue using the Apis until we see the results after the next eye doctor appointment report. I had her stop taking the Natrum Muriaticum 6c with 14 succussions and switch to the Calcarea Carbonica 6c with 10 succussions every night at bedtime since she needs the Calcarea Carbonica 30c several times a week. Every 4 months, we continued adjusting the Jaborandi and Apis by increasing the succussions by increments of 2, according to what each of my client’s eye exam showed for her eye pressure. We also adjusted and switched the Homeopathic Remedies she was taking according to the stress she was feeling during this healing journey.

Stopping the Eye Drops

My client will speak to her doctor about lowering her eye drops when her eye pressure has maintained at the lower end of the normal eye pressure range (10-21 mm Hg) for at least several months. As long as she is taking the eye drops, the eye pressure is still being lowered artificially, even though she is also using Homeopathic Remedies. Once the eye drops have been stopped, my client will continue taking the Homeopathic Remedies while we continue to monitor her eye pressure, to be sure it is staying within the normal range.

What is High Eye Pressure?

High eye pressure is also known as Intraocular Pressure (IOP), or Ocular Hypertension is when the pressure inside of your eye is higher than the normal range (10 to 21 mm Hg.). This results from when the clear fluid (Aqueous Humor) your eyes constantly make in front of the eye does not drain out. Normally, the fluid flows in front of your eye and drains out. When your eye makes too much fluid, or there is a blockage in your drainage angle, called the Anterior Chamber Angle, located between your iris (eye color) and the cornea (transparent part of the eye that covers the iris, aka the pupil). The drainage angle can also become blocked from one of the following:

  • The Drainage Angle is closed (blocked)
  • The Anterior Chamber is open, but not draining properly
  • Pigment or protein flakes blocking the drainage angle
  • Eye injury – happened prior to increased eye pressure
  • Eye cancer – blocking the angle

High eye pressure can occur in 1 eye, called Unilateral Ocular Hypertension, or in both of your eyes called Bilateral Ocular Hypertension. Ocular Hypertension usually doesn’t cause symptoms. Though in some cases, you may feel eye pain with movement or touching of your eyes.

Is Ocular Hypertension the Same as Glaucoma?

Ocular Hypertension (high eye pressure) is not considered a disease, does not cause damage to your vision, nor does it cause Glaucoma. However, high eye pressure can lead to Glaucoma when the Optic Nerve is damaged.

Homeopathic Remedies I Have Seen Decrease Eye Pressure

There are several Homeopathic Remedies for high eye pressure (Ocular Hypertension). However, the list below is of Homeopathic Remedies I have seen decrease eye pressure. The Homeopathic Remedy(s) is selected according to your high eye pressure symptoms. When your eye pressure has increased from an eye injury, you will select a Homeopathic Remedy according to the eye injury symptoms. When the Homeopathic Remedy for your eye Injury doesn’t improve the eye pressure, Physostigma (listed below) is one of the Homeopathic Remedies that helps lower eye pressure.

In most cases, any kind of stress in your life (i.e., relationships, work, financial, etc.) can increase eye pressure and needs to be addressed with a Homeopathic Remedy to help address why you have the high eye pressure.

  • Apis Melifica – Selected for increased with fluid in or around the eye that needs to be eliminated.
  • Natrum Muriaticum – Commonly selected for eye pressure from mental and emotional stress(s) in your life.
  • Jaborandi – Is selected for increased eye pressure, and you may also have tension in your eyes. Also suggested for eye pain from exertion of vision at fine work, such as needle point or looking at electronic screens.
  • Physostigma – Selected for increased eye pressure from an eye injury, which can also cause glaucoma. May have profuse lachrymation (tearing) and be bloodshot.
  • Silicea – Selected for when the Anterior Chamber Angle is blocked. Silicea will help with removing what is blocking the angle in order for the eye to properly drain, hence decreasing the eye pressure.

When taking a Homeopathic Remedy for eye pressure, do not expect the eye pressure to go down to the low end of the normal range (10-21 mm Hg) within a few weeks or so. As you can see in the case scenario I presented here, the eye pressure will take some time before it starts to normalize. This is because you need to address what caused the increase in eye pressure first, in order for it to improve, along with waiting the (usually) 3-4 months between eye appointments to see what the exams show. The selected Homeopathic Remedy needs to be adjusted along the way, especially with the changes in the stresses in your life as they are shifting toward balance (harmony). Therefore, it can take a couple of years, with ebbs and flows of the eye pressure. Once the eye pressure has been within the low normal range for several months to a year, the selected Homeopathic Remedy(s) can be stopped, and you as a client will only need to check in with me periodically with how you are doing overall.
