No Bones About it –There’s More to Calcarea Phosphorica
Calcarea Phosphorica, commonly called Calc Phos, is a homeopathic remedy made from phosphate of lime (calcium phosphate). Calcium and phosphorus are two minerals that help in making the bones hard and strong. Calc Phos is what’s called a Synthetic Homeopathic Remedy. Meaning, it is made up from 2 different homeopathic remedies: Calcarea Carbonicum and Phosphorus. Both Calcarea Carbonicum and Phosphorus are added to mortar and with a pestle the substance triturate into homeopathic remedy Calcarea Phosphorica. You cannot add pellets of Calcarea Carbonicum and Phosphorous to a remedy bottle and take it; you will not get the same results. Calc Phos does have some of the same characteristics of Calcarea Carbonicum (i.e., slow methodical and slow development mentally and physically), along with the Phosphorus characteristics (i.e., emotionally sensitive, craves cold drinks, and focus problems). And Calc Phos also has its own characteristics when made into one homeopathic remedy, such as tall slender person, who craves smoked meat and cheese. Calcarea Phosphorica people have poor absorption and assimilation problems, which causes physical problems with the joints, bones, teeth, and digestion.
Calc Phos can be taken as a Constitutional Homeopathic Remedy (addressing genetic makeup), an Acute Remedy and as a Cell Salt 6x (nutritionally feeds the bones).
Who are the Calcarea Phosphorica Children?
Calc Phos people, especially children have a delicate tall slender body or scrawny with waxy and dirty brownish skin. They have sunken in features and blue circles around the eye from the malabsorption of nutrients. These are the children that are rather tall for their age. Or had stunted growth until their early teens and suddenly shoots up very tall. The children are prone to growing pains from the growth spurt. And Calcarea Phosphorica is used acutely for growing pains, which appear especially, at night.
The Fontanelles (gaps between the bones of the head – sutures)
Calc Phos infants’ fontanelles are slow to close. The skull is often thin, soft and gives way under the pressure of a finger or seems to crackle like paper. Calc Phos will close the fontanelles along with address the pains in the skull bones, especially in the region of the sutures. The infant’s head can sometimes be wobbly, because the neck is thin and too weak to support head.
Delayed Dentition and Slow Learning to Walk
Poor nutrition, and poor assimilation affects the slow development of teeth, causing the teeth to come in late (12-15 months old), teeth pain or in some cases teeth decay. The toddler is slow at learning to walk because, the legs are not strong enough from the structural problems from the poor assimilation of nutrients.
Glandular Symptoms
Calc Phos children very often are sick a lot with colds, sore throats, bronchitis and tonsillitis. Which develops into acute and chronic enlargement of tonsils. The swollen tonsils can become so enlarged that they cannot open their mouth without pain. They are also prone to enlarged adenoids. These are the children; the doctors very often recommend having their tonsils and adenoids removed. Calcarea Phosphorica is one of the main homeopathic remedies used for the parathyroid gland (tumor), which affects calcium metabolism; hyperparathyroidism.
Mental and Emotions of Calcarea Phosphorica
Calc Phos are very timid sensitive, and nervous people. They tend to be peevish, fretful, and ill-humored.
They are obstinate and very hard to please, and become upset easily causing an overreaction response. They have a tendency to be very critical of themselves and of others. Which in time causes irritability and anger to develop. This often can go into a rage and with them swearing. The anger can grow very violently, if their opinion is different from others or if they are contradicted. They become angry afterwards at themselves for not being able to control their feelings. What really is going on, is they are actually discontent with themselves more than with others; even though they exhibit great irritability, anger, and disapproving behavior toward others. They feel like nothing is right for them.
I remember when I overdosed my daughter on Calc Phos when she was in grade school. She came home from school that day and said “Mom, I think I am overdosing on the Calc Phos? I got so upset with someone today, I literally spit on the kid.”
What bothers the Calc Phos people the most, is to hear that someone has done wrong. The indignation rises in them and they are more likely the avoid the conversation with that person. When they are in an irritable, angry state of mind, they are worse when someone tries to console them.
Temper tantrums
These are the children that are known for their temper tantrums. They complain about everything. They whine and moan, when they don’t get what they want; which leads to a temper tantrum. They get so mad; they want to break something and they have been known to throw things at someone. They are so, discontent, they are very hard to please. These people never seem to be satisfied with themselves. They can eat and eat, yet they don’t feel satisfied; they are not getting what they want. They commonly say their bored, but what it really is, they are discontented with where they are.
Restless and Always Wants to Be Traveling
They are very restless people and always want to be somewhere else, because they are not satisfied with where they are when they get there. You take them to the park; they will argue with you that they want to go home; even though they wanted to go to the park to begin with. Therefore, they always want something different – dissatisfied. They want to change the place from where they’re at, just for the sake of changing it; for example, they’ll want to go inside when they are outside.
They have a great desire to travel, a desire for change. They think going to new places or doing new things, will bring happiness. All the travelling does is give them something else to focus on for a brief time to distract them from their internal discontentment and restlessness. For example, if they leave their home, to run an errand or to visit a friend in another town, they feel better while they are in transit. Once they arrive, their discontent returns and they want to go back home. Besides the desire for change, they do like to be alone.
Mental Tasks
Calc Phos people are sluggish and tire easily. Mental exertion, becomes very difficult and requires more time to complete mental tasks. The mental thinking can cause a headache. They are mentally weakened from a grief, separation, death of animal, which causes them to have no energy, to the point they collapse afterwards.
Fears Sensitive to Bad News
They are overly sensitive people and cannot stand to see others suffer. They are deeply affected by bad news and disappointment (i.e., love). The unpleasant news, causes them to be beside themselves; they cannot think of anything serious, and cannot collect their thoughts.
For example, they get a phone call that one of their close friends was badly hurt at work.
They become overwhelmed with the news and can’t cope. They develop a numbness and
a crawling sensation from the effects of the bad news. They are sweating, especially around
the neck and head and want to fan this area all the time. This kind of news causes them to have heart palpitations and fainting spells.
What began as a temporary incident, causes an imbalance in them and in time becomes a chronic condition. They are now afraid of hearing anything bad; they become distraught from any kind of surprises or unpleasant news. Or even the mere thought, that they may encounter something unpleasant is unbearable to them. In time this can lead to depression.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
This a child that is very restless at home and in the classroom. They are considered hyperactive in the classroom and become labeled as ADHD. Mainly, because they have focus problem, poor memory, and are spacey in the classroom. They are getting out of their seats because, they can’t stay focused on their studies. The child loses their concentration and cannot comprehend what the teacher is talking about. The teacher sees them looking out the classroom window while instructing the children. This can stem from them always wanting to be somewhere else, instead of where they are. They can also be known as the class clown.
When you have a child that has a focus problem, is hyperactive in the classroom and craves smoked meat and is especially labeled as ADHD. Calc Phos will help this child be more focused and less restless in the classroom and at home.
Calcarea Phosphorica Prone to Bone Disorders
Calc Phos bones are soft, thin and brittle, from malabsorption of calcium and other nutrients in food. Causing the bones to fracture easily and are slow to heal.
I always recommend that my clients take a dose or two of Calcarea Phosphorica during the course of taking the homeopathic remedy Symphytum to heal a fracture. The Calc Phos makes sure the calcium has a good bond at the bone break. The strong bind, prevents them from breaking the bone in the same spot again, and helps with the pain that is commonly felt at the break area from the change of weather. A common complaint after a fracture, is that the bones ache during damp weather.
A change in weather, can also cause pain in the joints, arthritis, rheumatism and tendonitis. The extremities, joints, knees and neck are stiff and have pain, with a cold, numb feeling. Their rheumatic pains are worse in the winter (due to the cold weather), and disappear in the spring and returns in the autumn. They often say, they feel a cold sensation from their feet on up to their knees, especially during the night. Or a cold sensation in the limbs as if in cold water.
The Malabsorption of Calcium also Causes the Following Health Conditions

- Osteoporosis

Their headaches start at the back of the neck and are worse near the region of sutures. They feel better when quiet and alone. Headaches worse from change of weather and after school.
Foods Calcarea Phosphorica Crave
Calc Phos people crave foods that have a smoked, mesquite, or a BBQ flavor. Such as bacon, ham, smoked cheese, salted meats, salami, and sausage. However, they can have an aversion to ham. They also like sweets, potatoes and farinaceous foods (i.e., pasta, rice, polenta). Though ice cream, fruit, and cold foods can cause them to have diarrhea. They can vomit after a cold drink, even though they crave them. Coffee causes them to have nausea, heartburn, confusion of the head, and headaches. And also produces or increase intense ill-humor and irritability.
Calcarea Phosphorica’s Sleep
Calc Phos babies can be heard crying and moaning in their sleep (during a nap or nighttime) for a number of reasons (i.e., bone pains, teething difficulties) for extended periods of time. They are also tossing and turning all the time in the crib, while they moan and cry out in their sleep. They are so restless; they are constantly kicking and moving their extremities. Mom tries to console them, by picking them up, which does not soothe them. It only makes them feel worse while sleeping. Laying the baby on their abdomen during a restlessness night, helps to soothe them.
Calc Phos babies may have a suffocative attack with a cyanotic face (bluish purple skin) and extreme restlessness from low oxygen levels in the red blood cells or problems getting oxygenated blood to your body.
