Appendicitis

A client called me about her 14-year-old son possibly having an acute appendicitis attack. She said he has been having intense pain around his lower right hip area and that he doesn’t want to move around because it makes the symptoms more painful. My client went on to say it started early this morning with him not wanting to get up to go to school. She went on to say he does not have any appetite because he is feeling nauseous.

How to Check for Appendicitis

I explained to my client there are two ways to check for appendicitis:

  1. Have your son lay down on his back and gently press in the painful area with the tips of your fingers and quickly release. If it hurts when you release your fingertips, it most likely means he has appendicitis.
  2. Have your son stand near a wall or a chair for balance and have him grasp his right ankle. Then have him gently pull his heel up and back towards his buttocks until he feels a stretch in the front of his thigh, as if he’s doing a quadriceps stretch (standing). If he feels pain in his lower right abdominal area, it could mean he has appendicitis.

After asking my client a few more questions about her son’s symptoms, I selected the homeopathic remedy Bryonia Alba 200c to be taken every 30 minutes until the right abdominal area or nausea starts to decrease. Bryonia was selected for symptoms that are worse with movement as it was for the son’s appendix pain and the nausea. Meaning if he didn’t move his lower right abdominal area and or the nausea, he would have less intense symptoms. I advised my client to reduce the frequency of Bryonia administration every 30 minutes once severe pain and or nausea started to subside. She will repeat Bryonia when the intensity of the pain or nausea starts to become worse; this is usually a dose of Bryonia every 1-3 hours.

What Can Trigger Appendicitis?

I asked my client what happened in the last 24 hours or so prior to her son having appendicitis symptoms. I was looking to address the emotional state that triggered the appendicitis symptoms with a homeopathic remedy. She stated that he did not want to go to church yesterday. My client went on to say that for the last couple of weeks he has been balking at going to church. Her son states he doesn’t think he needs to go to church anymore since he’s a teenager. My client said her husband and her have been forcing him to church. Yesterday was the worse fight to get him to go to church. He got mad and slammed the kitchen cabinets and his bedroom doors. I said he needs a dose of the homeopathic remedy Staphysagria 30c, because he is being forced to do something he doesn’t want to do. He feels he has no say, because what he is saying is not being heard. Does it make it okay for a 14-year-old to think he doesn’t need to go to church; that is between you, your husband and your son.

I explained to my client that Staphysagria is one of the main homeopathic rape remedies and why it would apply to her son. What happens in some rape situations, the rapist is making the person do something they don’t want to do. So, what does the person being raped do? They realize if they keep quiet and allow what is happening to go on, the situation will end faster than continuing to fight them off. The person being raped feels during this event that their back is up against a wall and no matter what they try to do, they aren’t being heard.

Chronic Reoccurring Appendicitis Attacks

When you do not address an emotional reason as to why they are having reoccurring appendicitis with an emotional homeopathic remedy, as in this case not wanting to go to church with Staphysagria. You can continue to have reoccurring appendicitis and at some point, your appendix can burst. There are several homeopathic remedies for when an appendix bursts, such as Pyrogen. The correct homeopathic remedy is selected according to your burst appendicitis symptoms. When the selected homeopathic remedy for appendicitis no longer addresses your appendicitis symptoms, another homeopathic remedy needs to be selected according to your symptoms such as Iris Tenax for reoccurring appendicitis (chronic appendicitis).

What is an Appendix?

Your appendix is a worm-like tube about 3-4 inches long located in your right lower abdomen that is attached to end of the large intestine. For years, scientists did not know why you have an appendix. However, recent studies are showing that your appendix’s role in your immune system is to store and release good bacteria that your body uses to flush disease-carrying organisms from the intestines.

What is Appendicitis?

Appendicitis occurs when your appendix is blocked by feces (stool), foreign objects, tumors, or from a parasite(which rarely occurs). When this occurs, your appendix becomes infected and inflamed. What happens is you will have sudden pain between the middle of your abdomen and belly button. The pain may occur for several hours. As the pain worsens over time, you may experience nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite. At some point, the pain will shift to your lower right abdominal area and become very intense. You may also have chills, shaking, a fever, diarrhea, or a hard stool. Appendicitis commonly occurs between the ages of 10- and 30-year-olds.

Other Symptoms that can Occur

Your appendix can swell to the point it can burst. Your appendix can burst within 24-72 hours of having your first appendix symptom(s). In a case like this you will need to go to the emergency room to have laparoscopic surgery to have an appendectomy (removal of your appendix). Complications of appendicitis you can have:

  • Ischemia (blood supply) and necrosis (tissue starts to decay) can occur from severe swelling of your appendix.
  • Gangrene from perforation (i.e., tears, or bursts) from having necrosis an infection can spread internally and cause gangrene.
  • Abscess or pocket of pus spread beyond your appendix and can also create a mass around itself called a phlegmon.
  • Peritonitis (peritoneal cavity) is when an infection spreads to your peritoneal cavity, other organs and then into your bloodstream (septicemia) causing sepsis and septic shock and can be fatal.

How Can Homeopathy Help Your Appendicitis?

There are several homeopathic remedies for appendicitis. A homeopathic remedy(s) that is selected according to the appendicitis symptoms you are experiencing can help with healing of your appendicitis, along with what triggered your appendicitis. This is done by the homeopathic remedy releasing the obstruction in your appendix, which then passes on through your intestine, or if you have an infection that was causing lymphoid hyperplasia in your appendix to improve.

In the final analysis, homeopathic remedies tailored to your specific appendicitis symptoms can aid in healing and addressing the underlying triggers. It’s essential to choose the right remedy for effective relief and recovery. But don’t worry, with the right guidance, you can unlock its full potential.
