Does this Sound Like Your Sensory Neuropathy Ataxia Symptoms?

A woman calls up stating that she has been diagnosed with Sensory Neuropathy Ataxia about 8 months ago. The doctor is saying her Sensory Neuropathy Ataxia symptoms came from her having Multiple Sclerosis (MS). She has tried various medications the doctor prescribed for the Sensory Neuropathy Ataxia. She said, “I even cut out coffee and I did not see any improvement.”

Her friend suggested she contact me to see if Homeopathy can help. I said yes, Homeopathy can help the Sensory Neuropathy Ataxia symptoms. I explained to her, I need to select a 30c Homeopathic Remedy for the acute symptoms of the Sensory Neuropathy Ataxia to help her with the day-to-day symptoms (i.e., stumbling when walking). I would also recommend to her to also take a Homeopathic Remedy for her MS symptoms and for why she has developed MS, getting at the root cause of why she has developed Sensory Neuropathy Ataxia. In order to select a 6c Homeopathic Remedy for the MS, she would need to have a complete health history taken to help select a Homeopathic Remedy to be taken daily for the MS symptoms, which will address the root cause of Sensory Neuropathy Ataxia.

While taking my client’s complete health history she stated she is experiencing the following Sensory Neuropathy Ataxia symptoms: She feels a crawling sensation in both feet and legs. Sometimes her legs and feet feel numb with a tingling sensation like her legs and feet are trying to wake up (sensation of bugs crawling). Having this numb crawling sensation causes her to not be able to walk correctly. She stumbles around, especially when she goes to the bathroom during the night. She said, “I seem to have a problem walking in the dark. I had to put a motion night light up to be able to walk without stumbling around. I don’t know if it’s because I am walking in the dark or I don’t know where the ground is when planting my feet on the ground.” My client also stated she recently has been feeling restless in bed, like she can’t keep her feet still. After asking a few more questions about the Sensory Neuropathy Ataxia, I selected the Homeopathic Remedy Zincum Metallicum 30c to be taken at bedtime in a Remedy Solution Bottle (RSB) without succussions (tapping).

I went on asking my client several questions about her MS symptoms, such as: When did MS start? 10 years ago, she stated. What was going on in your life 10-12 years ago? She went through a divorce she didn’t want to have and is still grieving over the divorce. She loved her ex-husband, but couldn’t tolerate the cheating, lies and drinking (alcohol). She really wanted to keep the marriage together for the children (ages 5, 7 and 10 at the time). My client also stated her MS symptoms she had at the earlier stage were difficulty walking from muscle spasms (tremors), and muscle weakness on her right side of her body. She from time to time has loss of balance from numbness in the feet, along with burning and tingling. She also has urinary frequency and the last few years loss of bladder control, even when only holding her urine for a short time. Emotionally she has been feeling more frustrated, especially as her MS symptoms have progressed over the years. My client stated she has been on MS medications for years. The doctor recently adjusted her medication, thinking it would help the recent symptoms (walking, stumbling around), since the medication adjustment didn’t help, the doctor did further tests and diagnosed her as having Sensory Neuropathy Ataxia.

After our consultation, I selected the Homeopathic Remedy, Natrum Muriaticum 6c to be taken in a Remedy Solution Bottle (RSB) with 10 succussions (taps) every night at bed time. She said she is still grieving about the divorce and the man she loved, but she knows in the big picture it would not have been a healthy relationship to have stayed with her ex-husband, especially for the children to see, as he was not home much. He said he was working late or had a work trip, she knew he was with the other woman more than he was with her and the children, she stated.

A week after taking the two Homeopathic Remedies, she reported the chatter is a lot less in her head for the first time in 12 years. She’s falling a sleep much easier and waking up a little more rested in the morning. As for the Sensory Neuropathy Ataxia symptoms, she said the restless legs at night for the most part have lessened. She still stumbles when walking, but the numb crawling sensation is a little better. I had my client continue taking the Natrum Muriaticum 6c with 10 succussion and Zincum Metallicum 30c with no succussions at bedtime.

Two weeks later, she called back stating she is walking much better now that the crawling sensation has drastically decreased. She’s not losing her balance when walking in a dim light. Though, she still does have the night light on during the night, in case she falls while going to the bathroom. She said, “I don’t want to fall and hit my head on the dresser.”

A couple of weeks later, my client called to tell me the crawling sensation has started to come back in her legs. She also stated she is starting to have a problem falling a sleep again. I had her start succussing (tapping) the Zincum Metallicum Remedy Solution Bottle two times before taking it at bedtime. I also had her increase the succussions on Natrum Muriaticum from 10 to 12 succussions.

I explained to my client, as her overall health continues to improve, there will come a point the symptoms that improved will start to back slide. This is because the Zincum Metallicum and or the Natrum Muriaticum is not strong enough to keep up with the healing process and we will need to make these Homeopathic Remedy(s) stronger. This is done by increasing the succussions by increments of two. In doing so, the symptoms that started to back slide will improve and she will also see the Remedies take her to the next level of improvement. The MS symptoms will take longer to be completely addressed with a Homeopathic Remedy, because she has had it the longest and the mental and emotional state needs to be addressed. Our first goal is to get her off the MS medication, by addressing the mental and emotional state. The next step will be continuing the healing process by adjusting the Natrum Muriaticum dose accordingly and may need to at some point switch to other Homeopathic Remedy(s) as her MS symptoms change and no longer matches the Natrum Muriaticum.

What is Sensory Neuropathy Ataxia?

Sensory Neuropathy Ataxia, also called Proprioceptive Ataxia, is a symptom and sign of neurology due to loss of kinesthesia, which is your body’s ability to sense movement, action, and location. When you have Sensory Neuropathy Ataxia, you have less sensation in your feet and legs from the nerve damage, so you have less feedback from your brain telling you where your body is in relation to the ground, causing you to lose your balance or stagger. It is a form of ataxia (loss of coordination) that is not caused by the cerebellar dysfunction, but from a loss of sensory input into the control of the movement. When you have Ataxia you lose muscle control of your arms, hands, fingers, legs, body, speech, and even eye movements. Parts of your body don’t move the way you want them to. Or the muscles in your arms and legs move when you don’t want them to. Sensory Neuropathy Ataxia is from the cerebellar ataxia where your coordination worsens when walking with your eyes closed. Another example is you will be looking down as you walk slapping your feet on the ground. Sensory Neuropathy Ataxia can occur from damaged dorsal columns (spinal cord) that transmit the proprioception or from damage in the processing centers of your brain. It can result in heath conditions including variety of disorders known as Sensory Ataxic Neuropathies (SANs).

  • Infectious (i.e., herpes, shingles),
  • Auto-immune, (i.e., diabetes, MS),
  • Toxic (i.e., chemotherapy, drug induced, alcohol),
  • Vascular and hereditary illnesses (i.e., hemochromatosis),
  • Vitamin deficiencies (i.e., vitamin B12),
  • Idiopathic (disease of unknown cause), and
  • Age Related

Symptoms of Sensory Neuropathy Ataxia:

  • Gradual onset of numbness, prickling, or tingling in your feet or hands. These sensations commonly spread upward into your legs and arms.
  • Experience a sharp, jabbing, throbbing or burning pain.
  • Extreme sensitivity to touch
  • Difficulty touching your finger to your nose with closed eyes, inability to sense vibrations
  • Trouble walking in dim light or darkness
  • Walking with a “heavy step,” or stomping when you walk.

Testing for Sensory Neuropathy Ataxia

A test called the Romberg’s test is a series of tests that assess your balance and neurological function to see if you have Sensory Neuropathy Ataxia. If you are exhibiting any of these characteristics listed below, you have Sensory Neuropathy Ataxia.

  • Stand bare foot with your feet together and eyes shut. If you become unstable, causing you to do a wide oscillation and you possibly fall.
  • Close your eyes and point your finger towards the examiner. If your finger starts to drop or you can’t keep it extended horizontally without it falling.

The Difference Between Sensory Neuropathy Ataxia and Peripheral Neuropathy

Peripheral neuropathy refers to a lack of sensation or a numbing, burning, or tingling pain that starts in the bottom of the feet (often in your toes) and gradually spreads up your legs symmetrically. Sensory Neuropathy Ataxia, the nerves that carry messages of touch, temperature, pain, and other sensations to your brain, are damaged. Sensory Neuropathy Ataxia is one of the types of Peripheral Neuropathy.

Selecting a Homeopathic Remedy for Sensory Neuropathy Ataxia

A Homeopathic Remedy(s) taken for Sensory Neuropathy Ataxia will address the symptoms you have acutely (i.e., burning, numbness, poor balance and coordination). You will take the selected Homeopathic Remedy in 30c potency, several times a day when the improved symptoms become worse again. However, the best way to address the Sensory Neuropathy Ataxia is to have a complete health history taken to help select a 6c Homeopathic Remedy for the root cause of you have this health condition (i.e., MS, Stroke).

Homeopathic Remedies for Sensory Neuropathy Ataxia
