When faced with a deep cut, many of us instinctively consider the need for stitches, yet the reality is a bit more nuanced. While a trip to the doctor is often essential for repairing wounds that are deeper than they are wide, there are instances where stitches may not be required, and proper care becomes crucial to ensure optimal healing. If the cut isn’t stitched but is instead allowed to fill in naturally, it’s important to be aware of the condition known as “Proud Flesh.” This occurs when skin grows over a deep wound prematurely, encasing it without allowing proper healing to occur beneath. This can result in a gap under the newly formed skin, leading to complications and an unsightly appearance. Therefore, engaging with healthcare professionals for prompt assessment and proper management of deep cuts not only assists in aesthetically pleasing outcomes but also promotes better healing and reduces the risk of complications.
In Homeopathy, we have what I call “Homeopathic Stitched Remedies.” This is when two Homeopathic Remedies, Calendula and Hypericum, will actually fill in the “V” like gap when a cut is deeper than it is wide. This is when stitches are unnecessary, but you want to close the gap so as not to have Proud Flesh or develop an infection for not keeping it clean. When I have a client that has a “V” cut (the cut is deeper than it is wide), I have them apply the Homeopathic Remedies Calendula 30c Solution directly on the cut, and the next day, they will apply Hypericum 30c Solution directly on the cut, until the cut is completely healed. The cut heals up beautifully with no scar or Proud Flesh.
Calendula 30c and Hypericum 30c Solution Recipe:
- 2 Small cleaned or unused containers with lids or 1-ounce dropper bottles
- ½ – 1 ounce of Distilled or Spring water
- Calendula 30c pellets
- Hypericum 30c pellets
- 2 Labels and a pen
- Gauze
- Tape (medical)
How to Administer the Calendula/Hypericum Solutions:
- Add ½ or 1 ounce of the distilled or spring water to each container or dropper bottle.
- Add 1-3 pellets of Calendula 30c to one of the containers, close and label it as Calendula 30c.
- Add 1-3 pellets of Hypericum 30c to one of the containers, close it, and label it as Hypericum 30c.
The first morning, apply Calendula 30c Solution directly on the cut by placing 1-2 drops or wetting a paper towel with the Solution, dabbing it directly on the cut, and then covering it with gauze and tape to keep the solution on the cut and from getting dirty. The gauze is removed at bedtime to air out the cut. The next morning, Hypericum 30c Solution is applied directly on the cut and covered with gauze, and that night, it is taken off at bedtime. The Calendula 30c and Hypericum 30c Solutions are alternated each day (i.e., Monday Calendula Solution and on Tuesday apply Hypericum Solution) to fill in the gap of the V cut.
The cut can be cleaned out with Echinacea Tincture and water solution before starting Calendula Solution. You can also take 1-3 pellets of the Homeopathic Remedy Arnica Montana 200c or 1m for the pain or in a Remedy Solution Bottle with 10 succussions 1-3 times a day.
Homeopathic Remedies for Cuts:
- Arnica Montana– Is selected for the trauma of the cut area. Never apply Arnica as a Remedy, Ointment, or Cream topically on the broken skin.
- Calendula – Apply a 30c potency of Calendula Solution to the cuts that are deeper than they are wide.
- Echinacea Angustifolia Tincture – Add a couple of drops to ½ to 1 ounce distilled or spring water in a container. Apply the solution to clean the cut, ensuring it doesn’t become infected.
- Hypericum – Dissolve Hypericum 30c in water to be applied on cuts that are deeper than wide. The cuts may be tender and sensitive to touch.
- Staphysagria – Selected for a cut that bleeds slowly when initially cut (i.e., paper cuts). Also selected for thin cuts with sharp pain.
Homeopathy and Blisters
A few weeks ago, I developed a blister on the back of my heel from my sneaker sock while on a long walk. These were very low-cut sneaker socks that I wear with golf shoes that I didn’t completely pull up over my right heel.
That night, I took the Homeopathic Remedy Allium Cepa 30c, which is a Homeopathic Remedy for blisters and ulcers from skin rubbed off by shoes, especially on the heel. I repeated Allium Cepa for a few days, which helped slightly with the blister pain. Then, I switched to the Homeopathic Remedy Causticum 30c for a few days. Causticum is used for blisters that have a raw, burning feeling, along with a blister that does not entirely heal, and it keeps opening up. It wasn’t until I switched to the Homeopathic Remedy Calendula 30c that, within a few days, my blister completely healed up, even though Calendula is not considered a Homeopathic Remedy for blisters on the heel. I selected Calendula because it promotes the growth of new tissue within five days. At that point, all I needed to do was heal the skin that had rubbed off my heel from my sneaker sock.
Homeopathic Remedies for Blisters:
- Allium Cepa – This is the number #1 Homeopathic Remedy for blisters on your heel that keeps weeping (oozing).
- Cantharis – This is the main Homeopathic Remedy for large blisters that look like a broiler burn that bubbles up with clear fluid. The blister has a raw, burning, or stinging pain that feels better with a cold application.
- Causticum – This is selected for a blister that burns and has a raw and sore feeling, especially when the top skin is peeled off.
- Clematis Erecta – This Remedy is selected for blisters that look like vesicles or pustules (yellowish fluid) that itch and burn. The blister is worse when you apply cold water to it.
- Graphites – Has a blister that oozes a sticky honey-like fluid.
- Petroleum – Has a blister that cracks open and can sometimes bleed.
- Rhus Toxicodendron – The blister burns and feels better when you apply a warm application (heat). The blister breaks open, and the contents burn your skin. The blister resembles a poison ivy blister.
Homeopathy and Bruises
My Bruised Toenails from Running Marathons
In the early 90’s, I ran 2 New York City marathons. After running the 26 miles, my big toes would turn black and blue (Ecchymosis) from bleeding under the nail from pushing off with my big toes with each step I took. After trying several Homeopathic Remedies to address the bruising under my nails, the Homeopathic Remedy, Sulphuricum Acidum 30c, finally started to dissolve the blood under my nails. I took Sulphuricum Acidum twice a day in a Remedy Solution Bottle with 10 succussions until the toe pain was gone. Even though my toe pain was gone, and the bleeding under the nail had improved, I still had to wait for the discoloration of my toenails to grow out for the discoloration to disappear completely.
Homeopathic Remedies for Bruising:
- Arnica Montana – Is selected for a bruise that is not bleeding from being injured by a blunt instrument without breaking the skin. When you take Arnica soon after an injury expected to cause a bruise, you will most likely prevent the area from becoming black and blue.
- Bellis Perennis – The bruise is swollen and very sensitive to touch.
- Ledum – This is selected for discoloration after an injury without breaking skin open. The black and blue bruise is cold to the touch.
- Sulphuricum Acidum – Selected for when the black and blue bruise is slowly healing and fading on and under the toenail.
- Hamamelis Oil – Make oil from Hamamelis Tincture with Hamamelis 30c and rub it on the bruise. You will also take the appropriate Homeopathic Bruise Remedy for the symptoms you are exhibiting.
Homeopathy Addressing Crushed Fingers or Toes
My Son’s Crushed Fingers
When my son was 3 years old, he got his fingers crushed in the car door. My husband closed the car and when the door would not close all the way, he pushed harder to close the door. We realized the reason the car door wouldn’t close was because our son’s fingers were in the door. At that point, our son started crying. When we looked at his three little fingers, we could see an indentation from the car door.
I always have a Homeopathic Remedy Kit in my car with 100 Homeopathic Remedies. I gave him a dose of each of the two Homeopathic Remedies, Arnica Montana 1m for the trauma and Hypericum 30c for the crushed nerves in his fingers. I also gave him a dose of two other Homeopathic Remedies, Aconite 30c and Gelsemium 200, for the fright and the effects of the bad news of him getting his fingers crushed. An hour later, I repeated another dose of Hypericum 30c because the crushed nerve in his fingers was still hurting with shooting pain.
Homeopathic Remedies for Crushed Fingers or Toes:
- Arnica Montana – Taken for the trauma that has happened to the fingers or toes and is taken in conjunction with Hypericum.
- Hypericum – Selected for sharp shooting pains (nerve pain) radiating (travels), such as fingers or toes.
Homeopathy can be used effectively for treating blisters, bruises, cuts and crushed fingers. When it comes to cuts, Homeopathic Remedies can help promote healing and prevent infections. It is important to select the right Remedy based on the symptoms and consult a trained Homeopath for proper guidance. By using Homeopathy, individuals can experience quick relief and support in the healing process for various injuries.
