Recently, clients have been asking me whether to continue taking elderberry syrup while taking a homeopathic remedy for their cough, cold, or flu symptoms. I always say you want to stop taking elderberry syrup when taking a homeopathic remedy for acute symptoms like cough, cold, or ear infection, UTI. Some supplements work so well, they eliminate or mask the symptoms like nasal discharge, sore throat, or eye symptoms; you’ll need to help select a homeopathic remedy. When the symptoms you need to help you select a homeopathic remedy for cough, sinus infection, eye infection are eliminated, you will select the wrong remedy for your acute symptoms. And what I see is your health condition becoming worse; going deeper (i.e., throat symptoms into the chest). For example, when you continue taking elderberry syrup and taking a homeopathic cough remedy. Your cough will go deeper, and you can end up having pneumonia because you do not see the actual cough symptoms you are exhibiting to select a homeopathic remedy.
I have seen the same thing with taking the herbal tincture Goldenseal. While having sinus infection symptoms, your sinus symptoms will move down the throat, and you will end up with laryngitis (loss of voice). One reason Goldenseal causes a sinus infection to move down the throat is because it is also a homeopathic sinus infection remedy.
What Supplements Can You Take with Homeopathic Remedies?
You can take vitamin supplements such as vitamin C, D, Zinc, magnesium to boost your immune system (vital energy) and help prevent you from getting sick. And you can take these kinds of supplements along with any homeopathic remedy for chronic or acute symptoms (i.e., cough, cold, sinus infections).
Supplements I Don’t Recommend Taking with Homeopathic Remedies
- Colloidal Silver
- D-mannose
- Elderberry Syrup
- Goldenseal Tincture
- Oregano Oil
- Quercetin
- Xylitol
You can take these kinds of supplements regularly to help boost your immune system (vital energy) to help prevent getting sick and along with your daily chronic homeopathic remedy. However, when you exhibit acute symptoms like runny nose, cough, sore throat, or eye symptoms, stop taking the supplement and select a homeopathic remedy that fits your acute symptoms.
The Bottom Line: You need to decide whether you will continue taking the supplements to address your cough, cold, sinus symptoms or take a homeopathic remedy.
